Public Health

Using social media and online data for public health surveillance -- tracking COVID-19 discourse, vaccine attitudes, substance use, cardiovascular risk, and health behaviors at population scale.

We leverage large-scale digital data for real-time public health monitoring and surveillance, partnering with state Departments of Health and the World Bank Group.

Key areas:

  • COVID-19 discourse tracking and mental health monitoring during the pandemic
  • Vaccine acceptance and hesitancy analysis across populations
  • Substance use and opioid crisis monitoring
  • Cardiovascular risk stratification from social media
  • Population-level health behavior assessment

This work is supported by multiple NIH grants and has been implemented with partners including state health departments.
